David Christie commenced his adult working career at the age of fifteen, joining the Australian Army in one of the last apprenticeships the military had to offer.

After completing the Army Apprentices School in Victoria in 1975, David became a data encryption specialist and was deployed in top secret installations throughout the eastern states of Australia, working on “Cold War” equipment as an Electronics Engineer and Cypher Specialist. At the completion of his contracted nine years David worked for several years for the Queensland Department of Transport, on the repair, maintenance and installation of lighthouses, then still manned, from the Torres Strait through to NSW.

Relocating to Sydney saw David working as a Communications Engineer for AAP Reuters in the business banking district in the vibrant heart of Sydney.

David moved to Perth in the late eighties, and fell very much in love with recruiting at possibly one of the worst times, the crash of 1987. David determinedly opened “David Christie & Associates”, sea changing to a smaller consultancy in 2006 he called CareerCafé.

David was a founding member of the AIIA (Australian Information Industries Association) and was on the board for a decade as the Education and Training Convenor, and founded the “Education and Training Skills Forum” for WA, after his concept was embraced nationally.

He has served on the board of the Family Planning Clinic, advised Educational Authorities (including the Curriculum Council) and lectured at the Universities to student bodies. He was also instrumental in advising TAFE on the then new E-Commerce curricula, and advised the Department of Commerce on many occasions.

In 2005 David was made a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants Australia and in 2006 was presented with the Australian Defence Medal for Military Service. He remains passionate about education and training, motor cycling, and developing Australia’s intellectual property. David maintains membership with the Institute of Management Consultants Australia (IMCA) and was a founding member of the NAPC (National Association of Personnel Consultants, now the Recruiting, Consulting and Services Australia (RCSA). In 2014 David completed a workshop on the Hare Psychopathy checklist. (PCL-R) under Drs. Robert Hare and Matt Logan’s tutelage.
